The Content and Communications Officer role can be based in any of these locations.
The role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Content and Communications Officer.
Working as part of a busy and dynamic Communications and Marketing team and reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Content and Communications Officer will craft compelling and creative content for various communications platforms and deliver on communication strategies to support our enterprise work.
You will be a seasoned copywriter, communicator or journalist with a nose for news and a flair for storytelling. Bring your creative writing skills to this exciting role where you will engage with our diverse community of members to tell their stories across a variety of channels.
You will have sound experience producing engaging content (including feature articles, profiles, speeches and more), with experience proofing and editing content to the highest of standards and with exceptional attention to detail. The ability to deliver on projects and tasks in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities
• Use your well-honed journalism or communications skills to conduct interviews with talent and undertake research to produce compelling feature articles, stories and profiles.
• Develop and deliver on the FSU’s communications strategies to support our enterprise (workplace-specific) goals and objectives, including coordinating communication collateral and activities.
• Craft engaging, concise and consistent editorial copy to suit various audiences across a range of print and online channels.
• Write, edit and proofread content to the highest of standards with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring all communication is grammatically correct, aligns with the FSU’s editorial style guidelines and captures the FSU’s tone of voice.
• Distil complex information into clear, persuasive and engaging content for emails, speeches, briefs, reports and more.
• Coordinate, write and produce the FSU’s monthly newsletter to members.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop editorial content for the FSU’s campaigns, communications and marketing projects and initiatives.
• Engage with staff across the organisation to identify story opportunities and work with closely with them to ensure stories reflect accurate and appropriate content.
• Provide specialist advice and interpretation of communications processes, guidelines and policies.
• Develop compelling scripts and support the filming and production of videos that help tell the stories of our members and promote our brand.
• Manage and edit website pages and content using content management systems.
• Create engaging content for, moderate and manage social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and X.
• Provide back up support for media requirements, including coordinating media enquiries and drafting and disseminating media releases.
• Measure and report on communication strategies to provide actionable recommendations to inform future strategies that support campaigning growth.
• Identify trends and insights across communication channels to optimise content and campaigns.
• Undertake general communications and marketing tasks where required or as directed by the Communications and Marketing Manager, including content creation for emails and newsletters, story writing, updating and maintaining the FSU website, social media and more.
Selection criteria
Essential experience and qualifications
• A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, media, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience in a related field.
• 5+ years of working experience in copywriting, journalism or communications, with proven experience in developing content across a range of platforms.
• A portfolio of written creative work – this could be examples of news/feature articles or profile stories.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail – a proficient communicator and storyteller with a knack for writing engaging content to suit various channels.
• Exceptional proofreading and editing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, translate and leverage strategic messaging for communications.
• Demonstrated experience working to tight deadlines and ability to juggle multiple stories at once.
• Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and absorb complex information and distil or present it simply and concisely.
• Demonstrated experience using communications and marketing channels and platforms including website, email, SMS and more.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with social media platforms and using social media tools such as Facebook Ads Manager, Canva, Creative Studio and more.
• Demonstrated knowledge of using video editing tools such as Capcut or Adobe Premiere Pro.
• Demonstrated knowledge of using graphic design software such as InDesign, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
• Demonstrated experience in using content management systems to create and manage websites, and in developing web content.
• Proven track record in building and managing relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to be self-motivated, responsive and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities.
• A commitment to social justice and union values and a passion for making a difference to workers’ lives.
Desirable
• Experience working for a trade union or similar not-for-profit organisation.
Salary
The salary for this role is $91,361 with rostered days off. The FSU also offers other excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions of 15%. The FSU is an equal opportunity employer.
