Statement – Reproductive Rights

Queensland Unions General Secretary Jacqueline King said she welcomed today’s statement from the Queensland Premier to ban abortion rights bills from the Queensland Parliament.

“Queensland Unions campaigned strongly during the election to place abortion and reproductive health rights firmly on the agenda and to prevent any regression to pre-2018 when Queensland women and girls were criminalised for making choices about their own bodies”.

“This is a move that 75 per cent of Queenslanders fully support – whether they live in Brisbane or the regions. It’s a smart move by this Government and a win for ordinary Queenslanders.

“Abortion rights are a human right and a healthcare issue that should be determined only between a woman and her medical practitioner”.
